Crouch End, London Complete 370sq.m. House Renovation & Extension
Our clients acquired a detached Edwardian house on a leafy street in Crouch End, North London, with the vision of transforming it into a modern home suitable for 21st-century family living.
The property had not undergone any prior modernisation, and our brief was to revitalise both its exterior and interior. We successfully created a sophisticated, contemporary space with a large, open-plan ground floor that enhances the connection to the expansive back garden, allowing natural light to flow into the inner rooms.
A key element of the design was the incorporation of glass. We designed two winter gardens to provide uninterrupted views of the garden, along with a glass link that connected the main house to a side extension housing the kitchen and utility areas. Additionally, a rear dormer was added to offer garden views from the loft, and two sets of three Velux windows on the front provided views of a nearby football field, taking full advantage of the surrounding landscape.
The building works were notable, we extended both the ground and first floors by almost 4 meters, creating more room throughout the house. In the attic, we built a new master bedroom suite by removing the old roof and raising it by 3 meters to fit the new space comfortably. These changes significantly increased the size of the house and improved its overall layout.
The final design preserves the Edwardian character of the front façade, retaining the original materials and architectural style. In contrast, the rear of the house was modernised with timber cladding, extensive glazing, and steel finishes, creating a striking blend of traditional and contemporary elements.
