Marksbury Avenue, TW9
Richmond, London Complete 3 Bedroom House (120 sq.m.) Signature House
The site was originally part of a private residential garden, with tight planning restrictions on the height and visual impact of any proposal to the surrounding properties. This dictated that the new building could only have a single storey at ground level, so a new basement was required to maximise the potential of the site. Externally, the house is finished in white 'stuco' render with aluminium double glazed window units and glass balustrades.
The proposal maximises the use of the site, located near Kew, as a contemporary subtle three-bedroom house.
The basement level accommodates the 3 bedrooms, arranged around lightwells to maximise natural light ingress, with each room benefiting from floor to ceiling windows.
At ground floor level, the living accommodation takes the form of an open-plan space, with kitchen, dining and living areas, alongside access to the garden and separate patio area.
The house incorporates sustainable construction techniques and is designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, including features such as a green roof and a Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery system, which ventilates the house whilst minimising energy consumption.
