Bromley Road, SE6

Lewisham, London       Complete       50 Flats       Residential Development

Crawford Partnership were appointed to design a scheme that would not only regenerate the derelict former petrol station not only the site but also provide badly needed new homes in the area. Working closely with the planning department we were able to achieve a new flagship building on this prominent site.

The development comprises of a mix of 50 affordable and private dwellings in a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats that are designed in a cascading block that steps down from 6 storeys on the front of the site to 2 storeys at the rear.

The building has been awarded an ‘Excellent’ Rating under the Eco Homes Assessment and incorporates sedum green roof areas, Pilkington Low-E Double glazed windows, high levels of insulation and water saving fittings, with bicycle parking for every unit. An elegant surrounding landscape design by leading garden designer, Paul Cooper, enhances the development.

The main front façade is articulated to reflect its prominent position on the bend of the road and incorporates rich cedar wood cladding on a curved wall, contrasted with white render and angular balconies that peel away providing projecting shards of external amenity space. The front entrance is defined by a zinc clad ‘fin’ enclosing the fully glazed stair and lift lobby. The rendered side facades are punctuated by a pattern of irregular vertical window openings that serve to break up the building mass along its length and include cascading terraces providing added private amenity for occupants.
