New house secures planning permission in Ascot

An existing client contacted us in January 2020 with aspirations to develop a small garden site attached to an existing house that he owned located in Ascot. The brief was to obtain planning consent to construct a new house on the unused garden plot, attaching it to the gable end of the existing house that he also owned.

This is another challenging site typical of Crawford Partnership projects. The existing neighbouring house is a simple design, with a hipped roof, red brick and uPVC windows, and the client was keen to upgrade this simple design with a more contemporary 21st century style.

Our approach was to reflect the existing materials and vernacular style with a contemporary design that remains sympathetic to the existing. A number of design options were initially discussed with Windsor & Maidenhead planning department as part of a pre-application submission, and from the feedback provided by the planning department, we then developed a single hybrid design with simple, symmetrical proportions considered to be more appropriate and sympathetic to the adjoining house.

The new house will include three spacious bedrooms with an open plan ground floor living, kitchen and dining area that opens onto the front and rear gardens to provide private amenity space for the future occupants.

Having secured planning consent we look forward to working with our client on the detailed design stage with construction works hopefully starting on site later this year.
