Application at Georges Road approved by Islington Planning Committee

Following a period of intensive dialogue and negotiations with Islington planning department, our application for 5 new build houses and a B1 office at Georges Road near Highbury Corner was approved last night by Islington’s Planning Sub-Committee.

The new purpose-built mixed use design proposals will replace a row of dilapidated single storey sheds on the narrow site fronting onto Georges Road with 4, three-bedroom 3 storey houses, a 2 storey one-bedroom house, and a B1 office with basement and three upper floors. The scheme massing and design is inspired by the traditional Islington townhouse vernacular, incorporating detailed brickwork features to create a contemporary translation of this historic typology.

In his recommendation of approval, the planning officer described the scheme as “demonstrably enhancing the character of the Conservation Area” and “a sympathetic addition to the surrounding heritage ensuring a high quality of design and finish”.

We will now be working with our client to progress the project to the detailed design and construction stages to provide much needed family housing as well as bespoke office space for rent.
