Our new striking proposals for Alma Street have been approved by the planners

The alterations to this terraced house comprise significant changes to the ground floor layout, with a new extension to replace an existing anachronistic one. This creates a large open-plan space, constructed in glass, to contain a new kitchen and living area, with access out to the rear garden patio. At first floor there is a new orthogonal mass added, appearing to float within the glass below, which houses a new bathroom. This also provides space for the rear bedroom to be extended, due to internal alterations, with two obscured skylights on the flat green roof of the first floor extension.

The design, which is unashamedly contemporary, has been approved under delegated powers as it is considered “complementary to the historic building and the wider built context.” The scheme will bring in natural light to the heart of the ground floor, with the revised internal layout. The first floor element will be clad in a charred larch timber, creating a chevron pattern and adding texture and interest to the design as well as being very low-maintenance.

We hope to take the project forward shortly, so watch this space for updates!
